A high school of Nimes (France) set up on Monday, November
27 a system of bar codes allotted to each pupil. The establishment Albert
Camus thus intends to fight against truancy.
The system appears to be as a box coupled to an optical pen which each
morning scans the bar codes allotted to each pupil. At the time of the
morning call, each professor scans the bar code of the pupils present.
A few minutes later, the host computer provides a precise list of the
absent pupils . “The parents are alerted at once by SMS of the absence
of their child and must join the establishment by telephone”, explains
Jean-François Pons, headmaster of the high school
“Useful” investment:
“We were in search for effectiveness to shorten the reaction time between the absence of the pupil and the informatin provided to the parents. We also seek to improve the individualized follow-up of the pupil”, he explains.
